Clear, transparent terms regarding your rights, code ownership, subscription plans, and use of CodeOwl.

1. Acceptance & Description of Service

By installing the CodeOwl GitHub App or using the CodeOwl website, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you are entering into this agreement on behalf of a company or organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that entity.

CodeOwl provides automated, AI-driven code review comments, status checks, and security suggestions on GitHub Pull Requests.

2. Your Code & Intellectual Property

You retain 100% ownership of all source code, repository content, commits, and diffs you grant CodeOwl access to.

  • CodeOwl does not claim any ownership rights over your intellectual property.
  • We are granted only a temporary, non-exclusive license to process your diffs strictly for the purpose of generating automated review findings on your pull requests.
  • Your code is not used to train generative AI foundation models.

4. Nature of AI Reviews & Developer Responsibility

CodeOwl utilizes advanced machine learning and reasoning models to analyze pull requests. However:

Important Notice: CodeOwl reviews are advisory in nature. Automated reviews are not a guarantee of zero security vulnerabilities, performance flaws, or bug-free runtime behavior.

You and your engineering team remain exclusively responsible for verifying, validating, testing, and approving all code changes prior to deploying to production.

5. Acceptable Use Policy

You agree not to:

  • Abuse, disrupt, or perform denial-of-service tests against the CodeOwl API or bot infrastructure.
  • Submit malicious exploits, worms, or trojans intentionally aimed at compromising review runners.
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or copy CodeOwl review orchestration prompts or algorithms.

6. Limitation of Liability & Termination

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, CodeOwl and its maintainers shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, punitive, or consequential damages resulting from software outages, merge errors, or undetected bugs.

You may terminate this agreement at any time by uninstalling the CodeOwl GitHub App. We reserve the right to suspend accounts that breach the acceptable use policy.
